About

airdirect747 started in February 2006 in an attempt to offer a more direct public transport service from Fife and the North-east of Scotland to Edinburgh Airport using Inverkeithing Railway Station and Ferrytoll Park & Ride. It is hoped that the service will help integrate bus and rail services to provide a better integrated public transport network, increase airport journeys made by public transport, minimise traffic congestion in the Forth Road Bridge area and improve access to employment opportunities at the Airport and the Royal Bank of Scotland World Headquarters.

From April 2008, the service is extended to serve the Gyle Shopping Centre, Edinburgh Park Business Park and Heriot-Watt University at Riccarton.

The service came to fruition after a successful Bus Route Development Grant funding bid to The Scottish Government by Fife Council, Stagecoach in Fife, The Forth Estuary Transport Authority and The City of Edinburgh Council.

Under the terms of this partnership, Stagecoach and the Scottish Government have jointly committed £972,000 to the campaign, which aims to be completely self-financing within three years. This investment has included the purchase of 3 new state-of-the-art, easyACCESS low floor buses that will have the latest "green" environmentally friendly engines. The vehicles will also have CCTV to give added security for passengers.
